There’s been a lot of buzz about the infinite damage bug discovered in
D4 items. I wanted to open a discussion about the ethics of using such bugs while they’re still live.
On one hand, the bug is out there, and it’s kind of “fair game” until Blizzard patches it. Some argue it’s just part of how online games evolve—players find exploits, devs fix them, rinse and repeat. If you can use it to progress faster or enjoy the game more, why not?
On the other hand, exploiting bugs, especially ones that drastically affect damage and combat balance, can ruin the experience for others, especially in multiplayer or competitive modes. It can undermine the integrity of leaderboards and PvP, and might even hurt the game’s community in the long run.
Personally, I’m torn. I don’t want to be “that guy” who ruins the game, but I also hate artificially slow progression when a bug makes it easier. I think it comes down to the context: using it in single-player or casual modes feels more acceptable than in PvP or ranked play.
What’s your stance? Do you think players should avoid using the bug out of respect for the game, or is it just part of the fun of discovery? And what do you think Blizzard’s response should be?
Let’s keep it civil!
